Music
The content of Music taught at Belmore is in line with the National Curriculum and works on developing children’s self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. These skills are progressive throughout the school so that children can build on pervious skills taught.
At Belmore we use a programme that is a spiral curriculum. Key learning is repeated from unit to unit and year to year through the engagement of new pieces and songs. As the musical skills and knowledge are repeated, they are reinforced and learning deepens across the breadth of repertoire.
Pupils demonstrate progress by developing their musicianship skills and knowledge by revisiting and varying the task. By the end of each unit children should be able to:
- Perform with increased confidence
- Use appropriate of musical language
- Be Confident and fluent with musical participation
- Beginning to Improvise and compose with increased sophistication
- Be able to play harder instrumental parts
We recognise that through music, pupils can increase their self-confidence, sense of belonging, creativity and musical achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a broad toolbox of musical skills, allowing them to compose and to listen and appraise a variety of musical genres and styles. Through singing songs, children learn about the structure and organisation of music. We teach them to listen and to appreciate different forms of music.
